I Interviewed the Most Successful Cat Bloggers in the UK: Here’s What They Said…

I asked some of the UK’s top cat bloggers about their personal experiences of starting a cat blog. From personal journeys to cat advocacy, blogging can be a great way to offer a voice to cats and help others connect with them on a deeper level.

Many cat bloggers got started after feeling a personal affinity with these wonderful felines and continue to educate and spread awareness through their writing. One thing these successful cat bloggers all have in common is a passion for helping cats to be heard and properly understood for the unique and sentient beings that they are.

1 - Cats Matter

The Story Behind Cats Matter

Cat bloggers Mandy and Tiya started Cats Matter after both of their cats, Henry and Snowy, tragically died from being hit by cars and were left on the road. Shocked by the lack of care and compassion their cats received after these incidents, with Snowy even being sent to landfill, they both began separately petitioning for change in their area.

Mandy and Tiya subsequently met through social media, whilst Mandy was petitioning for the council to scan deceased cats for microchips and Tiya was petitioning to change the speed limits in her area.

They soon bonded over their mutual love of cats and decided to start their blog as a way to advocate for the needs of cats and create a safe space where like-minded people could share help and advice.

About the Blog

Today, Cats Matter has become a place for cat parents to connect and become more educated about general cat topics from microchipping to pet insurance. Drivers can also learn more about cat roadside safety, prevention, roadside first aid and what to do if they are involved in a collision with a cat.

Through the Stories section, bereaved cat parents are empowered to share their personal experiences to help raise awareness of roadside safety and have an outlet for their grief.

Awards

Cats Matter was named one of the 100 Best Cat Blogs to Follow in 2026 by FeedSpot and was an Animal Star Awards finalist for the best pet blog.

The Pets Behind the Scenes

Both Mandy and Tiya have cats at home. Mandy has two cats and two rats which people often find amusing! She adopted the rats after they were struggling to find homes.

Top Tips for Starting a Successful Cat Blog

Mandy says, “My top tips for starting a cat blog are just go for it! If you have a particular area you're passionate about, or even if you just have an interest in cats, creating a blog is the best way to put your knowledge and ideas out there to an audience.”

“Whether you want to create fun, educational or inspiring content, always be true to yourself and what you love. When you love your subject and strive to do your best, others will automatically flock to your content. Knowing that you've helped someone, or even just made someone smile by reading your article, is rewarding and only encourages you to keep creating more. Before you know it, you have built an audience who look forward to your content.”

Julie-Anne started Naturally Cats to help people better understand cats and their behaviour. The blog is a safe space where like-minded people can see beyond their cats’ behaviours and recognise them as, “sentient, sensitive and unique individuals, rather than something to be fixed.”

Julie-Anne works with anxious cats and their owners to help them find calm and gain a better understanding of each other. The Naturally Cats blog contains sections on cat behaviour, emotions and energy and is an informative resource for cat parents seeking to connect with their cat on an emotional and energetic level.

The Pets Behind the Scenes

Julie-Anne has two male cats, Leo and Baby Max. She also has a cat in spirit called Pickle. Max is confident and outgoing, whilst Leo has an anxious and shy temperament. Julie-Anne enjoys the two different energies they bring into her life.

Media

Julie-Anne has been featured in several major media and news publications including The Two Crazy Cat Ladies YouTube channel, Pet Life Radio, The Pet Care Report Podcast, Psychic News, Your Cat Magazine, Spirit & Destiny Magazine and more.

Top Tips for Starting a Successful Cat Blog

Julie-Anne recommends first finding the correct platform for your blog. It needs to be a system that you find user-friendly and sustainable for you.

Secondly, it’s important to have a good understanding of SEO practices either through self-teaching, taking courses or getting outside advice. SEO makes all the difference to your content being seen and reaching the right people.

Thirdly, it’s important to be passionate about the subjects you are writing about because this often comes through in your writing.

Julie-Anne says, “There are many ways people talk about cats, often from a purely behavioural perspective. While that can be helpful, I believe it’s only part of the picture. Cats are intuitive, emotional beings and when we begin to understand them on that deeper level, everything starts to shift. It’s an honour to give them a voice and that’s what continues to guide my work.”

The Story Behind Cat Mum Journal

Rachel started Cat Mum Journal after she adopted Drax and Simba who were the only two surviving kittens from a litter that was rejected by their birth mother. Rachel’s sister worked for Cats Protection and brought the kittens home to foster and the rest is history!

Alarmed by this sudden change in behaviour and the effect on her cats’ wellbeing, Rachel began to research feline behaviour and psychology, as she tried different methods to rectify the problem.

Cat Mum Journal was born as a way to share Rachel’s personal experiences and connect with other cat parents who may be experiencing the same issues. Today, Rachel continues to share the valuable knowledge she has learned in all areas of cat care, health and nutrition.
